Interview with a sexy Spanish vampire – Javier from Covet by Felicity Heaton
It’s fantastic to be here.
Today, I will be interviewing the very sexy resident Spanish vampire and co-owner of Vampirerotique, Javier. Javier is the hero of the ultimate forbidden love story. Read on to find out more about it from the vampire himself.
FH: I have Javier here with me today to talk about his book, Covet and life at Vampirerotique. Firstly, can you tell us a little about yourself?
JAVIER: I am an elite vampire and one of the owners of Vampirerotique, an exclusive theatre that caters to entertaining my own kind with shows that involve vampires and humans. I was born in northern Spain a little over six hundred years ago and have lived in London for the past century, running Vampirerotique with a fellow elite, Callum, and two aristocrat vampires, Antoine and Snow. My role at Vampirerotique is to oversee the theatre staff. The staff are a mixture of vampire and human, so sometimes this is not as easy as it sounds.
FH: In Covet, you meet Lilah. How did you meet and how did you feel about her initially?
JAVIER: I met Lilah two years ago, when her vampire master sent her to work at the theatre. Lilah is an owned human. It means that she exchanged blood with a vampire and benefits from his protection, and immunity to disease and slower aging granted by his blood. When I first saw Lilah, I knew I was in trouble. Resisting her was difficult but I had to do it, regardless of how it pained me and how my initial lust for her grew into love. Seeing her and not being able to touch her because of the bond to her master and the laws... it was Hell.
FH: Your relationship with Lilah is beyond forbidden because of those laws you mentioned. Because she’s an owned human, if you touch her out of desire, you forfeit your life. Is that right?
JAVIER: (nods) Unfortunately. To touch Lilah with any sense of desire is to sign my own death sentence. Her master would sense that the sacred law had been broken and would come for her. By law, I am not even allowed to defend myself when he comes to take my head. You do not know how difficult it is to see a woman you have come to love, to have to speak to her and give her orders for the night, and know you can never act on your feelings for her.
FH: It sounds like torture. But you’re together now. Can you tell us about what happened in your story, Covet?
JAVIER: I returned from a month long trip to Spain for my sister’s wedding to find that Lilah had punched, Victor, our best performer. It was opening night and not what anyone needed. I had to find Lilah and find out her side of the story. I knew that she would have a good reason for striking one of the resident vampires. When I found her during the performance, she was alone, cleaning out one of the private boxes. I caught her watching the show and all sense flew out of my head. My heart demanded I seize that moment with her and I did, and I came close to paying for it too. I was very fortunate.
FH: It sounds as though you were. Lilah’s master is an aristocrat, meaning he has pure vampire blood in his veins and is far stronger than you are since you have some human blood in your family. It must have been a very frightening time for both you and Lilah, but I’m glad that it worked out for you both in the end. How has life been since the events that happened and brought you together?
JAVIER: Busy. Lilah is settling into her new life and there is so much happening at the theatre. She continues to work even though I have told her that she no longer has to do such menial tasks. She likes to help out at the theatre, and has taken to spending time with Snow when he has to be contained, reading to him so he sleeps comfortably. I do not like her visiting the old aristocrat vampire alone but she tells me that I worry too much and that Snow would never hurt her. I fear that she might be proven wrong one day. Snow is not himself when the bloodlust seizes him. I do not want to lose her. She is my everything.
FH: That’s so sweet. I’m sure that she would call out for help should Snow take a turn for the worse and he’s always chained to his bed, so he wouldn’t be able to get to her. Your story, Covet, is a book in a series. Can you tell us a little about the series and can we expect see more of you in other stories in this series?
JAVIER: The series will definitely be more of what was chronicled in my book and I think I will likely feature in all the stories, or at least most of them. I believe the second story belongs to Callum and from what I know of that relationship, it is sure to be explosive and wild. He caused a much grander scale of ruckus with his choice of female than I did with mine. I hear through the grapevine that many females are impatiently awaiting Snow’s book. I cannot see what the attraction is. A blood crazed vampire liable to rip you apart? I would have thought they would sooner pursue the sane brother of that family, Antoine.
FH: I think everyone is convinced that Antoine has a stone-cold heart and women love to fix things. Snow needs fixing. I’ll end on a lighter question. Describe yourself in one word?
JAVIER: (smiles) Foolish.
FH: (smiles back at him) I think romantic might suit you more. Thank you for meeting with me today and chatting. Is there anything else that you’d like to add?
JAVIER: Only that I hear you will be interviewing more of the owners of Vampirerotique, and also Lilah. I am interested in what she has to say about our romance and myself, and I am looking forward to reading the other interviews too.
I hope you have all enjoyed this insight into Covet and life at Vampirerotique through the eyes of the hero, Javier!
